- On the fifth day of the pre-election campaign, Prime Minister and presidential candidate SERGE SARGSYAN was hosted in Nor Nork District. Thousands of voters had gathered there much before the hour appointed for the meeting with the candidate.

Passing through the thick crowd and responding to the greetings simultaneously, S. Sargsyan first approached the cross stone and the cross-decorated arch situated in the yard of St. Sargis church, the highest point of Yerevan, and laid a flower wreath in the honor of the martyrs to the Artsakh war and the victims of the plane crash that occurred during the Yerevan-Sochi flight two years ago in summer. Accompanied by Navasard Archbishop Kchoyan, Head of the Ararat diocese, the RPA Chairman first lit candles in St. Sargis church and only then came onto the speech platform, addressing his words to the people.
“Dear inhabitants of Nor Nork, I am very grateful for the crowded meeting and the warm greetings. I don’t want to conceal the fact that I need your help and support, ” Serge Sargsyan confessed, expressing belief that such direct communications with the people make the people-government ties warmer and additionally encourage every statesman to perform his work with a higher sense of responsibility.
Partially summing up the behavior demonstrated by the other contenders during the past five days, the Republican candidate arrived at a very typical conclusion, “Such meetings make some people anxious, increase their spite, as well as reveal their disappointment. I ask you not to succumb to the intrigues of those people, not to use spite to respond to their spiteful actions, because we do not have a goal to receive a vote of trust through elections only.
Our primary goal is to ensure a more effective progress for Armenia after February 19, to heal the moral-psychological atmosphere and to establish solidarity and mutual trust in society. No one has ever done any kind work by using spite.”
S. Sargsyan informed the people that during the past 5 days he had been to 2 marzes (provinces) and visited a dozen of populated areas. He transferred to them the impressions of the meetings, “The atmosphere of crowded and warm meetings has caused me mental sufferings. What should the newly elected President of the country do to justify the hopes of the voters, as well as enjoy the people’s trust to an equal extent?”
I have already drawn a conclusion for myself. The President of Armenia should always be in direct and live communication with the people. I believe during the past eight months following the parliamentary elections I managed to eliminate the stereotype that was formed in our society with regard to the authorities: that the authorities are detached from the people, and an official is afraid of appearing in public and listening not only to the kind words but also to the blames of the people.”
Head of the executive also informed the voters that they had performed all the obligations undertaken for the past months and earned the amount of trust required. “We were speaking about raising the country’s budget to 2.5 billion US Dollars. Thank God, our budget currently exceeds the AMD equivalent of 2.8 US Dollars. We have also kept our promise of making the economic growth continuous, as we have recorded an index of a 13.8 percent economic growth. And this exceeds the average results of the past three years by 1 per cent.
We were speaking about the supremacy of educational programs, and in our budget, we have allocated 3 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product to the sphere of education. This is equal to the amount we allocate to the Armenian Army. We managed to increase the pensions by 60 percent, instead of the 50 percent we had promised.
According to the analysis published recently by the World Bank, our country’s business environment has recorded a progress by four points, and we are on the 28th horizon in the list of the world’s countries. And there has been a one-third increase in the volumes of foreign investments. These figures come to confirm my pre-election promise that we’ll live twice better in a short period of time.”
