LET’S BUILD A BETTER ARMENIA TOGETHER
Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan, Head of the Republican Party, began the third day of the campaign by visiting the inhabitants of the town of Agarak, the southernmost populated area of the country. Early in the morning the people of Agarak had gathered in the central square to listen to the presidential candidate.
S. Sargsyan mentioned that he needed the help and support of all the voters for being elected, “I have come here not only to assure the guardians of our western gate that your vote and trust are extremely important for me, but also to emphasize how much Agarak is important for the defense and security of Armenia.
First of all, I want to introduce the clauses of my pre-election program and assure you that our country has a brilliant future. First, I want to confirm that the Armenian people and all the citizens of our country have the right to live well, and I want to transfer to you my belief that we together will be able to build a better Armenia.”
The next place of the campaign was the town of Meghri. Delivering a speech in front of the crowd gathered in the square nearby the Mayor’s Office, the Prime Minister introduced the right formula for building a better Armenia. “I am deeply convinced that there exists an extremely important and necessary condition for that. That is, we all must believe in the idea of Armenia’s good future. You have seen the initial stage of our country’s accomplishment; you have seen a war, and it is not a secret that there were many people then who thought that we might suffer a setback. But we certainly won. This was achieved at the cost of our people’s privations, as well as due to the fact that there were many people believing in victory.”
Serge Sargsyan considered that the greatest problem of Meghri is that the town is a little bit isolated from the capital city and the other regions of Armenia. “You are somehow detached, but such is the fate and mission of a border-guard. And I am happy that you honorably discharge your duty. At the same time, I assure you that we are not far from the times when the close direct ties between Yerevan and the other towns of Armenia will be much shorter; this will also be achieved due to regulating our relations with the neighbors.”
Clarifying a part of his foreign policy clauses, S. Sargsyan sketched out his primary tasks to be accomplished in the near future. “I believe, Meghri is the place where it is necessary to speak about the conditions, required for regulating our relations with the neighbors, and the way of making the battlefield victory a legal one.
We have three questions with regard to the Karabakh issue: first, Karabakh can no longer be under the protectorate of Azerbaijan; second, Karabakh must have a land border with Armenia; and third, we must have clear-cut security guarantees that the war will not resume. To achieve this goal, we must have a strong and great belief in the future. Besides, each citizen of Armenia is required to have an active participation in the reforms which are being planned.”
According to the Head of the Republican Party, people having no problems cannot be found even in prosperous countries. In the meantime, the people inhabiting near the southern borders of our country have some specific problems as well. “Nonetheless, I am sure that any person among the people who have gathered in this square will say that today he/she lives much better than five years ago. The reforms will continue in the near future, and this is reflected in the numerical picture of the social-economic changes introduced in my pre-election program. In five years we’ll live twice better. This means that the salaries and pensions will be redoubled, and the social-economic expenditures of the budget will multiply. It is extremely important for me to see our people getting rid of the psychology of the poor. This is not only a psychological problem; to achieve that, we must also be able to overcome the psychological complex,” S. Sargsyan finds.
The Prime Minister assured that the state will do its best for a working person to live in dignity. “We have passed through a lot of difficulties; we have accumulated experience and knowledge. So, we together must make our will and potentials serve for the welfare of Armenia, our country. Therefore, let’s look to the future and say, ‘Ahead Meghri! Ahead Armenia!’ ”
The last place where the Prime Minister visited during the three-day campaign was the town of Kapan. S. Sargsyan addressed the following words to the 7 thousand inhabitants of Kapan who had gathered in the square, “I was also born in a town like this, and I am familiar with the problems of a small town. I also know how to solve such problems. The war has made me realistic. If there emerges a problem, I voice it directly, without any hints.”
And using the same directness, the Republican Party candidate explained to the people of Kapan why he wanted to become the President of the country. “I want to assume this responsible post in order to prevent all the populated areas of our country from being bombed; in order to see light in our apartments in the evening and enable our children to communicate with their fathers directly. So as we’ll have a more protected country in the welfare Armenia, as a result of our joint efforts, and our children will learn about hails of bullets only from adults and textbooks. I want all the victories gained at the price of the life and blood of our heroes to become ponderous victories.
We can achieve this due to your trust and your active participation in the elections. There must be solidarity in our country and not the tradition of dividing everything. We don’t have the right to afford such luxury. Therefore, everyone participating in the elections on February 19 must be able to vote consciously.”
