FROM VILLAGE TO VILLAGE FROM THE FOOT OF ARARAT TO AKHURYAN

“Our regular temptation is on August 27 and by nominating my candidacy “Heritage” party will advance an alternative in constituency 15. We strongly believe, due to free and fair election campaign “Heritage” party, with its candidate, will definitely win the elections,” Raffi Hovhannisyan announced yesterday in “Hayatsk” club and without delay refuted the rumors about the withdrawal of his candidacy.
Moreover Raffi Hovhannisyan gives serious importance to the primary goal of gaining the laurel of the victor in different constituencies and he will “ direct all the power, resources (even if they are modest), to this campaign.”
He doesn’t underestimate his rivals and, as a gentleman, wishes success to all of them, and in a friendly manner advises “ both of the province governors, the single major, and various village governors to provide free and fair elections, appropriate to Armenian traditions and high standards, because later we are going to work with each of them as MPs representing the constituency.”
Predetermining his personal victory the speaker also promised, “ To start work from Monday and by traveling from village to village, from the foot of Ararat to Akhuryan, to introduce my program and our collective alternative to all the voters of constituency 15.”
“To what extent is it appropriate to an Armenian, to profit from the failing of the law that gives the possibility to the MP having been elected by proportional electoral system to struggle for the vacant majoritarian mandate?”
In response to our question Press Secretary of “Heritage” party Hovsep Khurshudyan said, “I should remind you that by now MPs of the National Assembly have participated in all the elections. The MPs of the previous National Assembly participated in the coming parliamentary elections, though the term of their MP activity wasn’t expired, and no one asked them any question of a kind. Very strange that this time it created such a confusion.”
Raffi Hovhannisyan added in his turn, “ Each RA citizen has the right to nominate his/her candidacy both by majoritarian and proportional electoral system and I exercise my rights.” In our turn we have to remind that the thing is not about being nominated in the same but in the “next” parliament. Once when Raffi Hovhannisyan was not an MP and was completely competent to nominate his candidacy, both by majoritarian and by proportional electoral system he didn’t exercise his rights.
To the question whether the party is going to appear with a personal or a united presidential candidate, “Heritage” party abstained from giving a premature answer and they said “this fatal issue will be discussed during the congress of the party in late autumn.” Anyway Mr. Hovhannisyan strongly believes,” the acting President and the Prime-Minister will correct their mistake and provide equal rights for all the presidential candidates.
At present if they or any of our rivals don’t step back from a free, sensible and equal rivalry then all the juridical bases exist to correct the mistake with one decree. If so then “Heritage” will come to a decision on our future steps. If no, then I don’t see any problem, it is not a “to be or not to be” matter and not a goal of life. It will be an honor for us to support any worthy candidate, be it male or female.”
Saying a “mistake” Mr. Hovhannisyan means that president Robert Kocharyan didn’t breach the law and give him 10 years citizenship. The speaker avoided giving at least one example of “juridical and legal bases.” Instead he expressed confidence that, “ Social service, various applications, the fact that there was no obstacle when the applications were submitted, because at that time (before 1995) we didn’t have constitution.”
“Which future presidential candidate will Raffi Hovhannisyan support – Ter-Petrosyan, Vazgen Manukyan or another worthy pivotal candidate?”
The speaker said,” All of these circulated names are worthy of respect because they are political figures both for the past and for the present. Anyway I don’t think the complex alternative can propose any name that is possible to have success during the presidential elections. Before that we need profound analyses that hasn’t occurred before. It is a new process.”
