DO NOT BELIEVE THE PROMISES OF “RULE OF LAW” LEADERS
- They May Prove False

Gagik Aslanyan, leader of the People’s Democratic Party which, together with “Rule of Law”, once declared of their intention to unite and join their efforts inside the coalition to guarantee our country’s stability and progress, has recently broken with that party.
The statement adopted in this connection, particularly says, “Unfortunately, as much as Arthur Baghdasayan in particular is concerned, we never observed any correspondence between words and deeds during the past 3.5 years, and personal interests were never subordinated to the interests of the country, state and people… Frankness, honesty and sense of balance never became predominant for A. Baghdasaryan. All we saw was a party of a leader, based on the principles of populism and fraud.”
In response to our questions, GAGIK ASLANYAN touches upon the motives for quitting the ranks of “Rule of Law” as well as the party’s comments on the issue under discussion.
“The principal reason for quitting the ranks of ‘Rule of Law’ was the fundamental discrepancies, the populist methods and practices of working with the people, raising questions and making decisions, which have absolutely nothing to do with the issues raised by ‘Rule of Law’.”
They just abuse the people’s feelings and moods, and it should be mentioned that they somehow manage to do that. Many people are really deluded by the populist statements of “Rule of Law” and this became an additional incentive to appeal to them before the elections not to be delude themselves. Don’t delude yourselves, because these people are only trying to advance their personal problems.”
“Anyway, why did you decide to quit the party at this particular moment. Perhaps you are really offended that you were not included in the proportional list of ‘Rule of Law’ or you received some promises from the party, as claimed by you colleagues belonging to ‘Rule of Law’.”
“This decision had ripened long ago. After the People’s Democratic Party and ‘Rule of Law’ became united I was the Party’s Vice Chair in the status of deputy, but in the course of time I was slowly dismissed from the party’s ranks and was trying to use my potentials as a person in charge for a small organization that formed part of ‘Rule of Law’.”
Although, I personally, was not dissatisfied with such status at all, there were, nonetheless, internal dissatisfactions, and especially our colleagues belonging to the party were constantly complaining about the mode of action adopted by “Rule of Law”. I was trying to mitigate the passions, by saying that we would try to find solutions and achieve a situation that conformed to our principles. As we saw, nothing came out.
No more than a year ago, in January-February 2006, along with the internal discussions inside the party, a question was raised that such situation did not satisfy us, and it would be better for the People’s Democratic Party to quit the ranks of “Rule of Law”. But when “Rule of Law”, in the person of Arthur Baghdasaryan, declared of its intention to move to the opposition domain, I considered my quitting the party improper in such situation; especially taking into consideration the fact that some part of the activists waived their membership of the party. On the other hand, it would be immoral of me to hold the office of Deputy Minister at the price of leaving the party.
With regard to Mrs. Bisharyan’s statement as if I quit the ranks of “Rule of Law” under the instructions of Hovik Abrahmyan, my former chief, it is at least ridiculous, because after resigning from the post of Deputy Minister, I have neither met, not talked to H. Abrahamyan. This is already a mode of action, one of the methods by which “Rule of Law” works with people – making intrigues, inciting controversy and setting people against one another by telling obvious lies.
P.S. In addition, it should be mentioned that “Rule of Law”, judging by all, is swiftly losing not only its political figures, but also electorate. And the rallies held recently may be an evidence of it. Thus, the meeting with the “Rule of Law” leaders was attended by 230 people in the town of Spitak and 1100 people in the town of Vanadzor.
