BAN KI-MOON'S DISREGARD FOR THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE BLAMEWORTHY
On December 9, the 60th anniversary of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was celebrated. The same day, on the occasion of the Convention's 60th anniversary the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon delivered a ceremonial speech 'reasonably' avoiding the fact of the Armenian Genocide. In itself, the action is objectionable and scandalous. However, we should not forget that Ban Ki-moon is only the henchman of the US President George W. Bush regime that in its turn is guided by the Israeli New Conservatives.
The circumstance of the henchman makes newly elected President Barack Obama (who makes prerequisites to change the world and alter the USA) change the official Washington's position on the UN. Otherwise, the anticipated alterations, independent of their final aim, will have a formal nature, and the UN will not take measures based on the principle of equality of the peoples and their right to self-determination (according to the Charter of the United Nations), but will continue to hide the tyranny of one people over the other one (in case of the Palestinians).
In other words, instead of providing peoples' equality, the UN divides them into privileged and deprived of rights, with that breaking its Charter. It is an evident manifestation of discrimination.
In his speech dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide the UN Secretary General not only displays discrimination, but also violates the provisions of the Convention adopted in 1948 and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights signed the same year; in 1973 the report of the 26th session of the UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities qualified the massacres of the Armenians by the Ottoman Empire as "the first genocide of the 20th century". The same year, the report as a draft resolution was discussed also at the 30th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights. In spite of the fact that the report's 30th subparagraph about the Armenian Genocide was removed in 1978, a year later it was restored at the 30th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights by a majority of votes.
If the UN Secretary General was not aware of the mentioned facts, he should do it at least before his speech, as it was not an ordinary but a ceremonial speech dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
Being the henchman of the Bush regime and avoiding the Armenian Genocide in his speech Ban Ki-moon encourages the Turkish denial of the Armenian Genocide, whether he likes it or not. Moreover, with this step he creates prerequisites for Turkey to find new henchmen instead of direct opposition to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Ban Ki-moon's disregard for the Armenian Genocide in his speech dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide is blameworthy not only in sense of disdain for the Convention and violation of the provisions of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights but also offending the Armenian people's dignity.
It seemed that the Armenian public, political organizations, scientific circles, intellectuals and especially the Government would counteract Ban Ki-moon's incoherent action that indirectly questions the appropriateness of the Armenian Government's policy on international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
But the representatives of the above-mentioned institutions led by the so-called law enforcement officers instead of condemning Ban Ki-moon's act only participated in the events dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the UN office of Armenia, of course, not forgetting of words of acknowledgement.
In other words, Ban Ki-moon's action was not condemned. Moreover, if an action is not condemned, it is involuntarily encouraged.
There is nothing for it, but to wait for the next speech of the UN Secretary General, where he will again avoid the fact of the Armenian Genocide inspired by the encouragement; he is given a wide opportunity to compare the Armenian encouragement with the Turkish one.
