PRESIDENTIAL VISIT TO SOCHI
The presidential press service informs that President of the Republic of Armenia Serge Sarkisian paid a visit to Sochi, Russia, by the invitation of President Dmitry Medvedyev.
The Russian leader said that his meetings with his Armenian counterpart are to be held regularly. He added that the CSTO member states are to figure out their positions on the South Ossetia conflict during the week and represent them on the Summit in Moscow.
President Sarkisian said, "In a few days Armenia is to assume the chair of the CSTO. I would like to focus on issues of economic partnership, enhancement of cooperation in the CSTO frameworks, as well as the new situation in the South Caucasus region."
Presidents Sarkisian and Medvedyev discusses military partnership in bilateral and multilateral formats and the perspectives of deepening the CSTO cooperation. Another important topic of the meeting was the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Russian President reaffirmed his position on this issue and stated that the conflict is to be settled only through peace negotiations. He expressed Russia's support to the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group.
A wide specter of economic relations between Armenia and Russia was considered by the two presidents. The private conversation between Sarkisian and Medvedyev continued during the lunch, after which the Armenian leader returned to Yerevan.
