PROPOSAL TO FORM RUSSIAN-ARMENIAN BUSINESS COUNCIL
It is already 8 years that the Union of Armenians in Russia (UAR) exists, said Vice-President of UAR and World Armenian Congress (WAC) Vladimir Aghayan in "Hayatsk" club on April 29.
According to him, necessity to form the Union aimed at gathering all Armenians and defending the interests of Armenians in Russia.
According to some data, about 2,5 mln Armenians live in Russia at present. And the Union of Armenians in Russia aims at solving their problems. According to the Union's charter, UAR should contribute to defending of the interests of Armenians in Russia, gathering of all Armenians around national interests and provision of Armenians' participation in fulfillment of civil society.
Today UAR has 66 regional branches and 450 - in cities and communities.
Thanks to UAR structures today Armenians have 80 Armenian deputies in RF local self-governing collegial bodies instead of 16. Similar statistics refer to Armenian schools in Russia - more than 350 Armenian schools at present instead of 30 Sunday schools in 2000.
The Union of Armenians in Russia and World Armenians Congress act also in Armenia and Artsakh. Russian-Armenian forums has been held since 2001. The forums aim at not only stimulating the investments, opening working places, but also stimulating remigration
After similar meeting in January, the Union together with RA Ministry of Trade and Economic Development is preparing a document to form an Armenian-Russian business council.
UAR another program in Armenia and Artsakh is connected with computerization of the schools. The decision was made during Armenia- second conference. Until today 5500 computers are given to Armenian and Artsakh schools and educational institutions, and computer classrooms and lecture-rooms were formed in 700 schools and educational institutions.
The Union of Armenians in Russia and World Armenian Congress also carry out computerization programs in the Armenian Army. 450 computers were given to Armenian armed forces.
Another initiative of UAR and WAC started last year. In the framework of cooperation with creative unions, creative contests were declared with the Unions of Journalists and Writers.
The contests will be held also this year. Besides the above-mentioned unions, Unions of Painters and Composers, and National Academy of Sciences will also participate in it.
UAR and WAC attach great importance to recognition of the Armenian Genocide and Karabakh issue settlement. Mainly, the two-volume book of the Armenian Genocide published by Moscow Armenian Institution of International Law and Politics and edited by Yuri Barseghov was awarded RA President Prize this year.
In January of this year the new work of Yuri Barseghov about Nagorno Karabakh issue was presented to the public.
Vladimir Aghayan reminded that UAR and WAC position on recognition of the Armenian Genocide remains the same - it is necessary from the perspective of guarantee of Armenian security in the region. Besides, Aghayan added that based on Barseghov's work, UAR and WAC proposed RA Foreign Ministry that it should study the presented materials as they can serve as basis to apply to Haaga International Court.
What about Russian authorities position on not permitting to hold demonstration in front of Turkish Embassy of Russia on April 24, UAR Vice-President qualified as not a right approach, but according to him, it does not mean that it's a problem between strategic partners. UAR is a strong organization and will take steps in order similar approach is not repeated.
