POST-ELECTION POLLS OF "POPULUS"
British well-known polling company "Populus" that had already carried out a poll and an Exit poll in Armenia presented the results of its post-election polls. According to the Director of the company Andrew Cooper, the Armenian Public TV requested the poll like the previous and the main poll was carried out by the Armenian Sociological Association and by the methodologies of "Populus". The poll was carried out on February 21-24 straight after the elections, among 1500 citizens that participated in the elections.
The votes were divided in the following way: Serge Sargsian - 53 percent, Levon Ter-Petrosian - 20 percent, Arthur Baghdasarian - 13 percent, Vahan Hovhannesian - 6 percen, etc.
Comparing the results of the previous polls and the above-mentioned results Andrew Cooper mentioned that Serge Sargsian votes are rather stable, Levon Ter-Petrosian's and Arthur Baghdasarian's electorate is changeable, Vahan Hovhannesian's electorate is also stable.
The picture of this or that candidate's electorate by their gender and age is the following: Serge Sargsian ranks first in all age groups, his votes are equal among the groups of women and men, but he is the leader especially among the youth - 59 percent (ages 18-24). Levon Ter-Petrosian gained more votes among men (24 percent) than women (17 percent), people of ages 65 or over (24 percent) and the youth (17 percent). Arthur Baghdasarian's rating is higher among women (17 percent) than men (11 percent).
The orientation of the voters to this or that candidate was based on economic factor; 60 percent of the questioned attached importance to the resolution of unemployment problem, 56 percent - strengthening of the economy and 48 percent - social problems.
"Populus" was interested also whether the elections were free and fair. The people should mark (from 1 to 5) the level of the elections freedom. The picture is the following: not free - 42 percent, free and fair - 39 percent. 17 percent of the questioned marked the elections 3. If we take out the marks of Levon Ter-Petrosian's voters, who, according to Andrew Cooper, are understandably dissatisfied with the results of the elections, the picture will be a little different: free and fair - 50 percent, not so much - 29 percent.
