TURKIC STATES HAVE CHOSEN THEIR TARGETS
On November 16, Baku took place the 11th Forum for "Friendship, Brotherhood and Cooperation of Turkic States", which was illustrated in November 17 publication of "Azg".
Emphasizing the impact of the forum on the Armenian reality, political reviewer Levon Melik-Shahnazarian says that Armenias domestic and foreign affairs will not be affected so seriously by Turkey-Iraq-Iran relations and the events in Georgia.
According to Melik-Shahnazarian, during the 11th Forum the representative of the Turkic states for the first time considered the idea of establishing an international governmental organization, regulating their joint foreign policy. According to the political scientist, this was a serious counter-measure against the Armenian propaganda and a serious step for Turkeys policy of defaming Armenia.
On the Forum Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan named Samarkand, Bukhara, Krikuk and Nikosia among territories rightfully belonging to Turkic nations. Levon Melik-Shahnazarian explains that the aforementioned territories are rather the targets of Turkish aggression, which may be unleashed in the forms of political and economic blockade as well as demographic intervention. In any case, the delegates of Turkic states named their targets, leaving aside Bashkiria and Tatarstan, which are still remaining a part of the Russian Federation.
Commenting on the recent events in Georgia, Melik-Shahnazarian says that the recent events in Georgia shall not bring much change to the Armenian-Georgian attitudes. He assures that Georgias stance about Armenia shall remain the same as in the times of Gamsakhurdia or Shevarnadze.
Exploitation of the Kars-Akhalkalaq railroad was another part of the economic blockade on Armenia, and Georgia had no moral right to take part in it, the political reviewer says. He notes that in the Azerbaijani press circulates information that Tbilisi may be exempted from the liability to repay $200 million, granted to Georgia and necessary for the construction of the railroad, in case the ports of Poti and Batum function with loss. According to Melik-Shahnazarian, the 200 million credit was a kind of bribe to president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, which will most likely remain in office after the extraordinary elections on January 5, 2008.
