FOXMAN'S AND HIS ORGANIZATION'S GOAL TO IS MANIPULATE ERDOGAN'S GOVERNMENT
Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Yayyip Erdogan, who left for New York in order to take part in the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly, is having bilateral meetings with various political figures. On September 26 he met with the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, Prime Minister of Italy Romano Prodi, Vice-Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Israel Zipi Livni, and President of France Nicolas Sarkozy.
During the meeting with the Foreign Minister of Israel Erdogan reminded of the accident of the Israeli military aircraft illegally crossing the Turkish airspace and said that Ankara is still waiting for explanations from Israel.
The rest of Erdogan's meetings on September 26 were dedicated to Turkey's membership in EU.
On September 27 Erdogan answered to questions about the new Constitution of Turkey and the war of the USA and Iraq against PKK. That day Erdogan also received the representatives of 20 Jewish organizations; among them were the leadership of the American Jewish Committee and the American Jewish Congress, as well as president of ADL Abraham Foxman.
According to CNN-Turk and the National Television of Turkey, the official reception organized at the Turkish House of New York, lasted for about 50 minutes. During the reception the Turkish Prime Minister again stated that the "allegations of the Armenian Genocide" are scientifically and historically inconsistent. He reminded that the Turkish side proposed Armenia to create a joint workgroup in order to study the events of 1915, and demanded the Jewish leadership to aid Tukey in the issue of the Armenian Genocide, as they had done before.
After the reception Erdogan had a Private conversation with Foxman. After the conversation the ADL president told the reporters that the meeting had been very important and that issues of Turkish-American and Turkish-Israeli relationships had been discussed. "We are friends, and even friends can have difficulties because of misunderstanding of certain phrasings. The historical problems must be settled by Turkey and Armenia, but not the Congress of the United States. That is not a political problem, and the Congressmen are not historians," said Foxman.
Answering a question about the reasons of the misunderstanding between Israel and Turkey, Foxman said that it occurred because of certain phrases describing the history of Turkey and Armenia. "In fact, the problem is a historical one, and our organization is a non-political institution. When using any words for the description of the events of 1915, we do not phrase them as a verdict. In my opinion, which I have expressed to Mr. Erdogan, we should rather focus on the future than the past. We have to make efforts to improve the relations between Armenia and Turkey. If the Jewish community, Washington and the Congress are willing to be useful, they should try to establish dialogue between Armenia and Turkey, for the sake of the next generations of those countries," he added.
Foxman's hints referred to the ADL's August 21 statement about the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. By the way, the question of the Congress Resolution on the Armenian Genocide was raised by Foreign Minister Ali Babacan on his meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Washington, September 27. The Turkish Foreign Minister also noticed that the Resolution would have negative effect on the Turkish-Armenian relations.
On August 25, commenting on ADL's continuously changeable stance on the Armenian Genocide, "Azg" wrote, "Let us not forget that us not forget that the Jewish organizations have the task to preserve the 'exclusiveness' of the Holocaust, as well as to save the 'dyonmes', the Jews from Saloniki who had fictiously adopted Islam and had an immediate part in the planning and realization of the Armenian Genocide. Moreover, those scoundrels, who were sentenced to death by the military tribunal, were the closest milieu of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Therefore, saving the 'dyonmes', the Jewish organizations are also saving the Kemalists".
Foxman's latest statements come to approve this statement, and the discussion of America-Turkey and Israel-Turkey relations on the meeting of Foxman with Erdogan show that irrespective of the August 21 statement, ADL never sought to accept the fact of the Armenian Genocide, but was aiming at taking control of Erdogan's pro-Islamic government.
Why? That is quite simple. The United States, ever observing the interests of Israel, start campaign against Iraq and Iran, so as to isolate them and deprive of the assistance of the neighboring states. On the other hand Turkey is starts improving its relations with those countries and tries to cooperate with them. In this way Turkey goes contrary to the policy of the USA and the interests of Israel. Nevertheless the Turkish authorities realize that breaking up the relations with Iraq and Iran Turkey would offend against the principles of EU-Turkey processes.
It is also obvious that Turkey, in case of obeying the USA and Israel, will have difficulties with its neighbors and will become isolated from them. That would nullify Turkey's geopolitical advantage in the region, as well as destroy EU's intentions to reach Middle East and Central Asia via Turkey. Europe will lose any interest in Turkey and negotiations on its membership in EU become insensible. Moreover, in this case Turkey will lose opportunity of equilibrating the America's influence by that of the EU and maneuvering between those powers.
In other words, the task of ADL and Foxman was to restrain Turkey and make it obey the interests of the USA and Israel.
