"PRIME MINISTER ERDOGAN TO GIVE UP ERZRUM TO ARMENIA," WARNS NATIONAL-REPUBLICAN PARTY OF TURKEY
The victory of Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan's "Justice and prosperity" Islamist party on the parliamentary elections in Turkey, July 22, is beyond doubt. Establishment Erdogan's authoritarian regime is also considered possible. That is why Turkish politics are trying to prevent not the victory of Erdogan and his party, but its absolute majority in Meclis, the Parliament.
The Turkish elite, which was formed in the times of Kemal Ataturk and has always worked under the cover of Kemalist nationalism, is worried by those circumstances. That is why the army and a considerable number of party and state administration workers, supported by the army, is trying to defame Erdogan by all means.
Most outstanding of those are the National Movement party, political wing of the "Grey Wolves", and the National-Republican party, political herald of the military structures. Both of them are basing upon Kemalist nationalistic ideology.
The latter has spread posters in Erzrum, which display two variants of the map of Turkey. The first is the map of modern Turkey as it is, and the second is altered in accord with the "Great Middle East" project, where one major part of the split Turkey is included in Kurdistan and Erzrum - in Armenia.
The header of the posters had the following inscription, "The National-Republican Party Will Not Allow Our State to Be Divided". The footer had another, "Do you know that Recep Tayip Erdogan is ready to give up Erzrum to Armenia by the 'Great Middle East' project?"
The citizens of Erzrum were irritated by the posters and on July 13 those were removed by the order of city administration, "Expressions of separatism, which cause concern and irritation in the town, cannot be used as means of pre-election agitation".
