"GOLDEN APRICOT " FOURTH FILM FESTIVAL TO LAUNCH IN YEREVAN ON JULY 9
"Golden Apricot" forth international film festival will launch in Yerevan on July 9-14, 2007. The organizers of the festival state that the festival doesn't yield to the international film festivals by its content and quality of the films. Haroutiun Khachatrian, chairman of the festival, added that the films included in the competition programs of the festival were thoroughly chosen by the members of the jury. He dwelt on the details about the coming festival at yesterday's press conference at "Hayeli" press club. The opening ceremony for the Golden Apricot 4th Yerevan International Film Festival takes place on July 9, 2007 in the large theatre at Moscow Cinema. Until the official opening of the festival however, there will be an unofficial opening with the blessing of the apricots at Charles Aznavour place. At the opening ceremony, the festival's special and invited guests will be introduced as well as the jury members. The festival will kick off with the Yerevan premiere of The Lark Farm, a film by the world renowned directors, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani.
The world premiere of The Lark Farm took place at Berlinale where it received the same kind of reaction as Atom Egoyan's "Ararat" did when it premiered at Cannes. Yerevan will have special guests for the premiere of this film, from the Italian-Armenian screenwriter Antonio Arslan to the actors Arsinée Khanjian and Tchéky Karyo. Today well known in France, in 1975 Tchéky was part of Daniel Sorano's theatre company and since 1979 has been performing in the Strasburg National Theatre. He has played such great roles as Hamlet and King Lear. His film career started in 1982 with Chantal Akerman's, ''A Whole Night.'' He gained his fame in the films of Luc Besson, Yan Kunen, and Gérard Gênet. For his role as Petrovichi in Kob Svem's «Scale» he was awarded France's prestigious award known as the César. He has recently also spread his talents to singing. The screenplay writer, Antonio Arslan, is a professor of 19th century European literature at the University of Padova and he is also a translator of Western-Armenian writers' works into Italian.
