NO NEED FOR A YEREVAN-MOSCOW DOCUMENT TO TRANSPORT ARMS FROM GEORGIA TO ARMENIA
Heavy artillery transportation from two Russian military bases in Georgia needs no Russian-Armenian ratification. The intergovernmental agreement signed earlier by Yerevan and Moscow includes a paragraph on replenishment of ammunition in Gyumri's 102d base.
Press speaker of RA Defense Ministry, colonel Seyran Shahsuvarian, told daily Azg that transportation of part of Russian ammunition from Georgia to Armenia does not go against any European document of general armament. Colonel Shahsuvarian noted that there are no talks of conveying Russian servicemen to Armenia so far.
ITAR-TASS agency informed yesterday that 15 railway carriages loaded with ammunition from the 12th base of Batumi have set off for Armenia. The command of Russian forces in South Caucasus stated that the transportation of military equipment and ammunition was coordinated with Georgia before the agreement of May 30 on deadline of withdrawal.
In an interview to Georgian Mze TV yesterday, Georgian foreign minister stated that Moscow insisted on adding an article to the agreement on transportation of Russian equipment to Armenia but the Georgian side did not comply regarding Azerbaijan's worry.
Minister Zurabishvili said that her Azeri counterpart Elmar Mamedyarov accepted Tbilisi's explanations. "Azerbaijan is right in sending a note to Russia not to us", Zurabishvili said.
