CHARLES AZNAVOUR TO DEPART TO GEORGIA FROM ARMENIA
World famous French Armenian singer Charles Aznavour will visit Georgia after his stay in Armenia on invitation of Georgian President. The ruins of the house where his father was born still stand there. The great celebrity will lay flowers to the grave of his ancestors.
Ludwig Petrosian, president of an Armenian NGO in Akhaltzkha (Georgia) quoted the governor of Samtzkhe-Javakhk region as saying that President Mikheil Saakashvili will arrive in Yerevan on May 28 to take Aznavour to Tbilisi and then Akhaltzkha on his plane.
It is envisaged that Aznavour and Saakashvili will meet Armenian and Georgian residents of Akhaltzkha at the town's Georgian theatre. The singer and the president will probably have a talk in Tbilisi as well.
In his book entitled "The Past Days" Aznavour wrote, "As my mother was born in Turkey she was Turkish citizen, likewise I am French citizen. My father was a specialist in tobacco manufacturing. My mother had two brothers and a sister; God knows how all of them disappeared during the genocide. My father, Misha Aznavourian, was from Georgia, originating from Akhaltzkha".
