ELEVATOR AT EIFFEL TOWER FALLS DOWN
- The elevator at the Eiffel Tower in Paris has fallen down its shaft as it was undergoing maintenance tests. Management says the incident is 'serious' and is investigating its cause.
The incident occurred in March, French daily Le Parisien reports. The paper says that the lift, which was empty, slipped on a greased cable. But most troubling thing is that the emergency lock on the lift did not function so the it slipped to the bottom of the shaft.
Eiffel Tower management say they seriously investigate the causes of the incident. The Eiffel Tower welcomes almost 7 million visitors every year and is the most visited monument that charges an entrance fee in the world, the Local French news agency reports.
