THE WAY THE POLICEMEN INTERROGATE
Member of Conservative Party Karen Hekimyan was brought to the Police Station of Shengavit district on May 5 and was kept there about 7 hours. We simply cite what he told us about seven hours he spent in the Police station.
“I was still sleeping when three policemen came to my apartment on May 5 in the morning. They entered and told me that their chief wanted to talk to me. I told them whether they have a notification; they gave me a negative answer. I said if I refuse to come what will you do? They said that they will stay until bringing him to the police station. I went to the next room to put on my cloths but they followed me and asked to get dressed with their presence. They also didn’t allow me to make a call and suggested not to take my cell phone.”
We went out of my apartment, got on a car and went to the Shengavit Police station. Photo journalist Gagik Shamshyan crossed our way, and the policemen cursed him.
We reached to the Police station at 10:00am, I sat in a policeman’s office Hovik by name and asked for a glass of water but I was refused, I wanted to go to the toilet but I was refused again. Then I tried to make a call but was refused again. I was asked to sit and wait. Hovik was asking me where I have been on March1, I said that I had been at my friend’s apartment; he was asking me again, have you broken the “Niva” car that day. I say that I haven’t fired it. He was constantly giving me the same questions so that I refused of answering any more.
Hovik asked me whether I have been in that police station before, I answered that I was brought to the same place on March 26 near “Time Out” café. Then I was left in the office for a while, Then Hovik came and said to go to another room. I went to anther room where I waited until 15:00. Then chief of criminal cases Edik Varderesyan came. He was speaking in normal way contrary to Hovik. He was also interested what I had done on March 1. I told him from the beginning what I have done on March 1 without missing any detail. The chief went out and came saying that there is a person who saw me on March 1, and it will be better to tell the truth.
An ugly guy came in 10 minutes. I don’t know who he is whether an official but when he saw me he said that he recognized me.
… The chief asked me again who was my friend I visited him on March 1. I answered that he was a journalist from “Kentron” TV Company Gevorg Emin-Teryan by name. He was the only evidence. He called Gevorg. The latter came not knowing that I was there and confirmed what I have told before. Then the chief came and said that Gevorg was a good guy, like me. I was allowed to go after being kept about 7 hours.
