“DO NOT MAKE ARMENIA A GHETTO”
NA former vice speaker Ara Sahakyan calls. - Mr. Sahakyan, what is the reason that you decided to break the silence and ask for giving an interview in “Aravot”?
- There is a famous proverb: “If you do not carry out a policy, the policy carries out you”, this happens to me as well as to those who do not carry out policy publicly. The mother of a victim in Beslan’s school had said: “I was living with my daughter in very isolated conditions; I was interested in anything and thought that it would be everlasting. But one day a great tragedy happened to my daughter, she was killed. It seemed to me that the live will be meaningless for me but I realized but I must struggle to prevent Beslan’s tragedy.” These elections, March 1 and the continuing process is a Beslan and keeping silence is equal to a crime.
- Which are your anxieties?
- The elections have been rigged, and the current regime has declared a war to the people. Levon Ter-Petrosyan and his political team are declared out of the law. They are being persecuted as criminals and more than hundred activists are jailed, thousand of them have been arrested, interrogated, hijacked and these all are still continuing. Though the state of emergency has been removed but the people still leave in the conditions of the state of emergency. People are deprived of the freedom of the speech, personal immunity etc.
- But the authorities call the people for consolidation, and as an example, they signed agreements with four leading parliamentary forces.
- I understand the consolidation in the family, among friends or in the army and I highly appreciate it. There is no family without consolidation, the friendship turns into hostility without it. But the consolidation inside even one party is not adoptable. The spirit of clashes of competition, ideas and projects should prevail, the internal party factions should have the right for existence, Bolshevik, totalitarian parties are only united. And when we speak about the society, the united society is a tolerant, silent conglomeration. A lot of rulers wished of having obedient population for ages but they have been severely punished. People are different from their origin, with their physical and mental capacities, political and economic orientation, and the states, authorities are created to harmonize those differences. I think Kocharyan-Sargsyan couple understands it but is not able to resign themselves.
- If they understand, why do they act against the public will?
- I think that they act what their experience in Azerbaijani, Islamic, hostile close atmosphere of the ARNK prompts. Our society is an open society, it has struggled and gained the right of alternative way of thought, economic competition. Everyone will be failed in making Armenia a ghetto.

I respectfully disagree with Armen. First, no one knows the true facts. Second, Kocharians were able to liberate Karabakh and held Armenia and karabakh out of mouth of Turks. Mr. Levon Petrosian clearly has declared that he wanted to be president only for 3 years. I would like to ask from Armen what possibly he would have done for Armenia and Karabkh?
Finally, I and many other ordinary Armenian living abroad should not have privilege to call Armenian leaders names. As long as they are our leaders, all of us should respect their positions because they are agent of Armenian nation. If you do not like them change them.- Armen

kocharyan liberated Karabagh? are u joking? and if u don't know the "true facts" then how come u say such a thing???
and what is wrong if levon petrosyan says he will stay for 3 years? is that a bad indicator or an indicator that he is not greedy and runnining after presidency such as serge sargsyan and his predecessor kocharyan
armenia is a dictatorship, u like it or not, this is the "true fact" that u can't and should'n't deny, its very bad, that we armenian nation accept that 2 persons OWN Armenia and behave as if Armenia is their own personal farm ...- Papken Hartunian
