SPORT: ARMENIA’S YOUTH FOOTBALLERS TRIUMPH OVER ITALIAN COEVALS
- Football Armenia’s U-19 national team led by coach Armen Gyulbudaghyants started well in an international friendly tournament in Italy. As reported by Armenia’s Football Federation, in the opening match over last weekend Armenia beat the U-19 team of Italy’s Seria C1 football club Monza – 4-1. In the second match, on Monday, Armenian footballers beat coevals from football club Vicenza (Seria B) with the same score. Armenia’s third and final opponent is the U-19 team of FC Juventus (playing in Seria A) on Saturday, May 10. Meanwhile, Armenia and FC Ajax Amsterdam striker Edgar Manucharyan is reportedly seeking to join another football club on loan. “Despite the fact that I am in a good form, Ajax head coach Adrie Koster does not give me a chance to show myself. Under the circumstances, I see no possibility for progress, Regnum.ru news agency quotes the 21-year-old striker, who never appeared for Ajax’s main team this season. “I’m not happy with my current situation, but I hope that the situation will change in summer.” Manucharyan is quoted as saying that he does not exclude he may be transferred to another club on loan for half a year. FC Ajax expects a new coach in summer. The current head coach of the Dutch national team Marco van Basten is likely to take the helm of the country’s leading club. Chess Armenian grandmaster Sergey Movsisian performing under Slovakia’s flag lacked half a point to share the first spot with the winner in the European individual chess championships among men that recently ended in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
