THREE-DAY MOURNING IN EGYPT
- The armed forces council of Egypt has declared a mourning for the 74 victims of mass disturbances following a soccer match. There are about 1,000 injured. After the soccer match in Port Sayid, fans of the winning home team Al-Masri attacked the soccer players and fans of the losing Al-Akhli team of Cairo. The match ended with a score of 3:1 in a tense atmopshere because the fans of the losing team had used swear words. The BBC reports that hundreds of people had gathered at the railway station in Cairo with protests against the military authoriites and the slogan "This is not soccer, it's a war". The BBC recalls that Al-Akhli's fans are particularly known as "mad men" and there were practically no security during the match.
