WAS IT A PETITION OR AN ORDER?

Member of the Helsinki Association Arshaluys Hakobyan, imprisoned on July 5, complains about the petition made by advocates in her defense. The three advocates, including Head of the Civil Society Institute Arman Danielyan, President of the Armenian Helinski Committee NGO Avetik Ishkhanyan and Head of the Center for Freedom and Rights Vardan Harutyunyan, had appealed to the police ten days ago with the petition to replace imprisonment with another precautionary measure for Arshaluys Hakobyan. "As I was told, the petition was ordered by the preliminary investigative body, which allows me to predict that the mentioned organizations are working with the Police and are completing their orders," said Arshaluys Hakobyan. Arshaluys, who is charged with Part 1 of Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code for applying force against a state representative, declares that the case is groundless and says the following to the advocates who had filed a petition: "If you are really concerned about the illegal actions committed against me the advocate and the fact that the police applied force against me, appeal to the "Helsinki Association" legal defense organization or my advocate and not take measures by the order of the prosecution because that is just helping the law-enforcement bodies implement their objectives which are against the law."Head of "Helsinki Association" Mikayel Danielyan told "A1+" that Arshaluys Hakobyan, her advocate and he were not aware of the initiative. He is against the petition and believes that the case must be quashed. "The policemen who testified against Arshaluys must be punished." Arshaluys's advocate Gayane Khachatryan has actually appealed to the RA Cassation Court against the court's decision to apply imprisonment as a precautionary measure. She also appealed to the Kentron district's prosecutor to quash the criminal case and punish the police who applied force against her client.
