Youth in Alaverdi mainly talk about the lack of places of interest especially during the summer. The movie theaters of Alaverdi haven't opened their doors since the 1990s and the elderly only remember the parks. One of the largest parks in the city has been left deserted for many years now. The mayor of Alaverdi says that the city needs huge amounts of money to reconstruct the parks and preserve them, but the district's budget doesn't allow for that. According to the mayor, the park may be reconstructed with private investments. The last resort for spending time in the summer is the cafes, but it is not always pleasant to be there. "The waiters at the cafes serve you with moans and groans and clients don't want to go to those cafes again. But we are forced to go again because there is no other place to go," says Hasmik. Hasmik and her friends study in Yerevan. They came to Alaverdi to spend summer vacation in their hometown. Narek says that he can spend a good time with his friends in the woods, but he has to come up with different ideas to spend time with his girlfriend. Nevertheless, the students have found the alternative and have decided to make the summer vacation interesting not only for them, but for all youth in Alaverdi. They have already taken the first step by creating a youth union with a list of events. According to Ani, unlike other cities, there are many advantages in Alaverdi.
