HASN'T OUR PLANE FALLEN DOWN?
- Armenia's Minister of Finance Tigran Davtian thinks Armenia was able to surmount the economic crisis. Other countries wouldn't survive if they faced a 30% economic decline within eight months. "Under the given conditions each country suffers a collapse: the crisis is felt throughout the country. In such cases countries feel a great depression; they give soup to people in the streets on a barrel. Today when I walk in the capital streets people come up to me and say: "The crisis seems to have passed." On the whole, people no longer feel the crisis." The Minister says that the number of cars parked near cafes hasn't decreased. Moreover, people get the same salaries. "The plane of other countries would fall down long ago," said Mr. Davtian. A1+ tried to know our citizens' opinion of the crisis and we met the opposite picture. "We are sick and tired of this mass. They say people commit suicides. But no one wants to know the reasons. We can no longer endure these unbearable conditions. Our nerves began giving in. We have no food in our fridges," said a Yerevan citizen. "I can no longer conceal the truth. Let them kill me but I must say everything. Let our authorities walk in the streets and see the crisis with their own eyes," said another. "My children haven't eaten bread for days as I cannot afford it. I have to beg in the street to keep my children," said the third. "Our government officials travel in luxurious Jeeps whereas ordinary people have no money to buy food," added the fourth.
