MARCH 1 EYEWITNESS WAS BEATEN?
- The RA Police released information today according to which yesterday police officers were beaten by a group of youth spreading news about the July 2 rally organized by the Armenian National Congress. (According to eye-witnesses, the police officers in uniform assaulted and beat the youth spreading the news near the "Parisian Coffe" cafe-shop-ed.) "On July 1 at 8:30 p.m., a group of on-duty police officers of the Central Division of the RA Police on Abovyan Street noticed a dispute going on between 60 citizens. They approached them, showed their police badges and demanded that they end the dispute, but when the youth found out that they were policemen, they attacked them with wooden clubs, feet and hands. The police failed to arrest the more active participants and the youth fled the scene," as stated in the release of the RA Police. It turns out that one of the police officers received damages during the incident and one of them was transferred to the "St. Grigor the Illuminator" medical clinic in a state of unconsciousness. The release doesn't mention the names of the beaten police officers. The release also states that on the same day at 9:15 p.m., the medical clinic received information according to which Sahak M., Herbert G. and Tigran A. had come to the clinic for medical aid and left. Preliminary investigation is underway. The "St. Grigor the Illuminator" hospital informed "A1+" that citizens Sahak Muradyan, Herbert Gevorgyan,. Tigran Arakelyan and Eric Poghosyan had been transferred to the "St. Grigor the Illuminator" hospital. Eric Poghosyan a police officer and an eyewitness for almost all criminal cases related to March 1.
