THEY THOUGHT IT WAS AN EARTHQUAKE
- Residents of building 18 in the Piruzyan district of Alaverdi confused strong winds with an earthquake and fled the building. Luckily, there was no earthquake, but the pier located two-three meters away from the building collapsed. As a result, the cucumber bushes, fig tree and the car belonging to the Saroyan family "went underground". The family managed to save the car. They estimated the damage caused and need 150,000 drams to repair it. They are not expecting compensation from anyone, but fear that the entire building will be damaged in case of another incident. The residents tie the collapse of the wall to the heavy rains. They put a water pipeline a long time ago, but didn't asphalt the hole. The rain went under the caused a loop-hole. But the rain wasn't the only reason, say residents. The water has been gathering in the damaged sewerage for months. According to the department of city construction and land use of the Alaverdi municipality, they will try to find the reasons for the accident, but will not be able to do anything due to lack of finances.
