WATERSPOUT
The unexpected winds and whirlwinds led to destruction in many districts of the Shirak region. Nearly 30 homes were destroyed in the Akhurik district, including the roof of the ambulatory which was blown off and thrown towards the nearby field. Residents hid in the basement during the storm. The level of precipitation was so high at the car station of Gyumri that cars could hardly travel on the streets. During the downpour, the entire area was flooded with water to the level that cars were unable to make it through the streets. Many were surprised because they were seeing a storm like this for the first time. But things were different in the rural residencies. There was practically no rain at all, but the waterspout had destroyed the roofs of a number of homes. Some villagers hid in their basements. The storm killed many animals and damaged the roofs of cattle-sheds where the cows were kept. One can imagine how strong the winds were after seeing how they rolled the huge ten-ton metal boiler to one of the houses. The wind damaged the electric wires providing electricity to the village and as a result, the entire district was left without electricity. The winds also damaged the ambulatory building in Akhurik district and ripped off the roof of the ambulatory. After a short while, representatives of the Shirak regional council arrived to the scene to get acquainted with the situation. Head of the Territorial Administration Department of the Shirak regional council Karlen Abrahamyan mentioned that the waterspout caused damage to the Gharibjanyan and Getk districts as well and the size of material damage remains unclear.
