TAXIS WITH WHITE LICENSE PLATES WILL BE FINED
Starting from today, the RA Ministry of Transport is checking taxi drivers with white license plates with the help of traffic cops. According to press secretary of the ministry Susanna Tonoyan, all taxi cars had to be licensed by April 1 of this year and receive their yellow license plates.
According to Tonoyan, until now only the ministry department officials had been in charge of supervision. “But since we had a lack of human resources and our department was not competent to stop the cars, we decided to do it with traffic cops,” told “A1+” Tonoyan and added that there have been 646 cases since April 1 and that there has been an 8 million 235 thousand dram increase in the state budget.
Today, in the course of one hour, more than 10 taxis were stopped and the drivers received tickets. Not only did one of the cars have a white license plate, but the driver had no license.
If spotted with a white license plate, the driver pays a fixed fine: the first time he pays 20,000 drams, 40,000 the second time and so on. At present, there are 423 licensed taxi services in Armenia of which 129 are in Yerevan. The services have 4,335 cars of which 1836 are in Yerevan
