Armenian GM Levon Aronian tied with the World Champion Vishvanatan Anand at the third round of the Grand Slam tournament underway in Bilbao.
Temur Rajabov also played a draw with Vassily Ivanchuk. The leader of the fixture list Magnus Carlsen lost to Vesselin Topolov.
After the third round Vesselin Topolov takes the first place with 5 points, followed by Carlsen with 4 points. Anand, Ivanchuk and Rajabov share the third place with 3 points each. Aronian is the sixth on the list with 2 points.

Today in Armenian history- 1835 Birth of the novelist Raffi (Hakop Melik-Hakopyan), in Paianjue (Salmast, Iran). He died in 1888 in Tbilissi (Georgia).
- 1835 Birth of Armenag Haikuni - Hambardzoom Djezmejyan - (writer, translator) in Constantinople. He died in 1866.
- 1835 Birth of the armenologist Karapet Ezyan (Ezov) in Moscow. He died in 1905 in St. Petersburg.
- 1877 The Tsar confirms the additional statutes on the serfs of Yerevan and Akhltskha Provinces.
- 1923 Birth of Sargis Baghdasarian, sculptor, artist and teacher. His "We are our mountains" - "Gharabaghthsiner" sculpture (1967) became a symbol of the national movement of Artsakh. He died in 2001.
- 1969 Death of academician Meliksetbek (armenologist) in Tbilissi (Georgia).
