“MARCH 1 FAVOURABLE ТО SERZH SARKISSIAN ”

“The March 1 events will soil Armenia’s reputation until we remove the stain from our foreheads,” Chairman of the Political Scientists’ Union Hmayak Hovhannissian said during today’s roundtable.
During the bloody events of Baku and Sumgait Hmayak Hovhannissian wrote that people were deprived of their fundamental right-the right to live. But it never occurred to him that similar events might ever occur in Armenia.
Hovhannissian doesn’t endorse Isagulian’s opinion that each of us has his share of guilt in the March 1 occurrences. “If everyone is guilty, then no one is guilty,” he said.
Political scientist Manvel Sarkissian thinks the only person who benefited from the March 1 events was Serzh Sarkissian. The events could have been averted if Serzh Sarkissian hadn’t tried his utmost to seize power at all costs.
Manvel Sarkissian thinks the Sarkissian-Kocharian couple lost power still on February 26. The March 1 events were resulted by the authorities’ aspiration to come into power and preserve oligarchic system in the country.
Chairman of the “Supreme Council” deputy-club Ruben Torossian thinks the March 1 occurrences shouldn't be viewed separately. They are the logical continuation of the rigged presidential election. The opposition should appeal to all instances to denounce the February 19 vote, release political prisoners and launch an independent investigation on the events.
“March 1 symbolizes the rigged election. People's inconfidence towards the Armenian leadership and political prisoners testify to the continuation of the March 1 events,” said political scientist Aghasy Enokian.
Member of the Social Democratic Henchak Party Vahan Sirkhanian is confident that the Human Rights Ombudsman's suggestion to set up a commission comprising of representatives of opposition, authorities and international structures will not be endorsed.
