Under a May 5 decision of the RoA Appellate Court the restraint of the “Nor Zhamanakner Party” (NZhK) leader Aram Karapetian was left unchanged. To note, the Court of the Kentron and Nork-Marash communes had decided to prolong Karapetian’s detention for two months.
Today Karapetian was denied entry to the courtroom.
“The point is that neither the investigator nor the judge could ground for the decision therefore they conducted a closed sitting,” said NZhK board member Hrachia Sarkissian.
Aram Karapetian’s adherents and relatives were shouting, “Free Aram,” “Free and independent Armenia,” “Struggle to the end” throughout the court session.
At the beginning of the court sitting the plaintiff announced that people standing outdoors with posters and pictures of the political prisoners intervened with the sitting and might influence on the verdict, Karapetian's Attorney Harutiun Baghdasarian told A1+.
Reminder, Aram Karapetian was arrested on February 24. He is charged with alleged treachery against the Armenian leadership.
Since Aram Karapetian is accused of a treachery the General Prosecutor’s Office should have examined Robert Kocharian, Serzh Sarkissian and former FM Vartan Oskanian. The Prosecutor’s Office was to find out whether they had been insulted by Aram Karapetian’s statements or not.
Hrachia Sarkissian says that Aram Karapetian is simply subjected to political persecution.
He reminded that Arthur Baghdasarian used to criticize the Armenian leadership. “In reply, President Robert Kocharian named Baghdasarian traitor. A year later Baghdasarian announced that the Sarkissian-Kocharian couple had made an attempt upon his life.”
Baghdasarian was taken to the prosecutor’s office. He was well-protected and given a “Jeep.” Later on, he was appointed Secretary of the National Security Council. It implies that all those who “make bargains” are given posts while innocent people are punished.”
Aram Karapetian’s attorney is going to dispute the decision of the Appellate Court.
