PROTEST ACTION IN HAGHTANAK VILLAGE
Today a protest action was held in the village of Haghtanak in protection of detained political figures. The choice of the venue is determined by the fact that detainees Smbat and Marzpetuni Aivazians live in Haghtanak.
The participants of the action were mostly women.
Local residents say nearly the whole village voted for Levon Ter-Petrossian at the Presidential election while their votes were counted in favour of Serzh Sarkissian.
Today’s protest action was attended by “Zharangutiun” Party MP Anahit Bakhshian. She says they demand the RA authorities to carry out the PACE resolution.
Leader of the “Hanrapetutiun” Party Aram Sarkissian approached the protesters at the end of the action. Smbat Aivazian is Aram Sarkissian’s close friend. Aram Sarkissian says the recent arrests have political motivations and imply elements of revenge. “The authorities do their utmost to deepen the gap between the society and the state.”
