PACE RESOLUTION WAS “TOUGH”

Today Davit Harutyunian, Leader of the Armenian Delegation at EC assessed the PACE resolution on the Armenian post-election occurrences as “tough”. Davit Harutyunian assured the journalists the Armenian delegation had no intention to soften the resolution terms.
“We simply wanted to make them clear. Though the resolution is tough it contains a plan of activities and certain analyses. The more objective the analyses and proposals are, the more productive a tool the resolution will be.”
The PACE resolution demands that the political prisoners be released, while the Armenian authorities continue to prolong the terms of detention. Doesn’t the fact speak for the neglection of PACE resolution demands by the authorities? “I find it difficult to speak on individual cases. On thing is obvious: we must take up practical steps towards realization of the resolution terms. I believe the coalition government will discuss the future measures to be taken towards effective realization of the resolution. All the resolution points are driven by our interests”, stated Harutyunian.
In reply to the question about “The Law on rallies, marches and demonstrations” Davit Harutyunian answered: “The law will have been changed by the beginning of June.”
Davit Harutyunian also dwelt on their meeting with the Leader of Azerbaijani Delegation Samed Seidov at PACE. “The meeting pursued only one goal – to discuss the date for the theoretical meeting between Armenian and Azerbaijani MPs. Taking into consideration the political developments both in Armenia and Azerbaijan (the Azerbaijani Presidential Elections will be held in October) the meeting was decided to be held in January, 2009.”
