AUTHORITIES MAKE PROMISES WHICH THEY DO NOT INTEND TO KEEP

“Authorities carry out their policy. They use weapons and feel comfortable as it is a military-police state”, said Chairman of the Helsinki Association Michael Danielian while commenting on the tragic events of March 1. A month has passed but the authorities still use violence arresting people walking in Northern Avenue.
Danielian says people are taken to police departments and to the prosecutor’s office without any grounds. But no one has been punished for these illegal actions and arrests. He says people have been beaten in the prosecutor’s office but no employee has been fired or sued. “Just on the contrary, they insist more policemen than demonstrators have been injured on March 1, they write 14 people have run away from hospitals and given false identification data. It means citizens are still under pressure”, the Chairman says.
Danielian thinks the situation will be tense till April 9 and even later. “The state is unlikely to become non-military in a day. I have heard 30 people are going to stand trial and be imprisoned. Possibly, some will be set free under outer pressure but it will only take a formal turn and the authorities will keep on their policy.”
Danielian is confident that the authorities will be tough on people who have acted against them. They will never become democratic as they promise the moon and never intend to keep their promises. “We are well aware of their promises.”
The Helsinki Association has issued a statement that any citizen who is called to a police station “to talk” should turn to their NGO. Michael Danielian refused to give any further information on the matter.
Note that no person has been taken to the police over the last 3 days.
