RISE IN PRICES CAUSED BY FUEL

Post-electoral period in Armenia is significant with a rise of prices of most public consumption goods up to 10 – 40 AMD. “I bought a bottle of cooking oil only to see it grown in price – 820 drams instead of former 800. The same goes for a range of other goods” – said a consumer in one of Yerevan supermarkets.
The results of a monitoring conducted by the Armenian State committee of protection of economic concurrence showed stability in prices of some goods. In some cases the prices have even reduced, and the prices of some goods, of a larger number, have increased. Articles included were bread, vegetable oil, some types of butter, sugar, coffee, etc.
According to Armine Udumian, the spokesperson for the committee, the increase is caused by a significant escalation in the international market not only for basic alimentary products, but also for oil products, gold, and grain.
According to her, the results of monitoring bring to the conclusion that no violation of the concurrency legislation has taken place. She added that an issue of prime minister Serzh Sarkissian launched a committee with members included from Central Bank, State Tax Service, Ministry of Trade, Statistic service etc. “They are going to study the matter more thoroughly and make necessary suggestions to assuage the price rate”, she is quoted as saying. She noted that the growing price rate is in no way connected with post- electoral processes in the country as “elections are not an economic factor for economic entities.”
Economist Edward Aghajanov says that prices shoot up after each election in Armenia and this time rise in prices was well anticipated.
With regard to rise in prices at the international market the economist says that only wheat price has gone up.
