SHAVARSH KOCHARYAN STILL OPTIMISTIC ABOUT SERZH SARKISYAN
AZhK Leader Shavarsh Kocharyan said at the "Pastark" Club today that both the opposition and the authorities are resposible for the March 1 tragic events. In case the rallies were peaceful he would blame only one of the sides, but in this case the responsibility is double-sided. Shavarsh Kocharyan drew parallels with the latest events and those of 1996. At least no shop was robbed then. People didn't carry weapon, poles, etc. People should have informed the City Hall of the rallies, he added.
But he forgot to mention that in 1996 they had introded the National Assembly and beaten the NA Speaker.
To a journalist's question how long the president will govern this time he said, "In 1996 it was obvious that Vazgen Manukyan was elected. The overwhelming majority of people backed him. But now we cannot say for sure that Levon Ter Petrosyan won the February 19 election. The offgoing president took relevant actions in this connection. After coming to power Serzh Sarkisyan may take efoorts to gain people's confidence," he said.
According to the AZhK leader the Government faces a dilemma-either to strenghten self-governence or to enhance deocracy in the country, he adds.With regard to the newly-formed coalition, Shavarsh Kocharyan says they had better involve outer forces and establish a government based on national harmony.
