“10 POLICEMEN BEAT A YOUNG MAN”
Early in the morning the beaten demonstrators as well as other citizens gathered in front of the French Embassy in Yerevan. Other citizens who had organized a march also joined them. The demonstrators will stay here until 15.00 p.m., and then they will hold a rally.
“Who assaults on peaceful demonstrators? Only Turks”, stated a demonstrator. One of the witnesses in the Liberty Square, Varduhi from Haghtanak village told that the police fell on them in the Liberty Square and “some time latter I witnessed how three policemen with truncheons beat a woman in the Mashtots Avenue”. As the woman stated we demanded Turkey to recognize the genocide but “the police implements a genocide by Kocharyan’s order”.
“Ten policemen beat a young man and threw him away, maybe he died”, told another witness.
“Without warning they assaulted on us, first the police then the soldiers, it seemed to me that they were the military servants from Karabakh. I read it on their uniform. Then they beat women and children severely without saving anyone”, told another witness Mkrtich Abrahamyan who participated in the march to the French Embassy. “If we do not win, we will leave this country”, he said.
At the moment near the French Embassy the demonstrators are crying out “Freedom”, “Levon President”.

I agree, however the bigger picture then Russia is BP end Exxon, who have contracts with Azerbaijan. So they now if Azeri makes war all Armenia has to do is to bomb the oil targets, however, Aliev has said if there is a war it will be against Armenia too. Now the defense pact is with Armenia and not karabagh. So if Azeri attacks just karabagh and not Armenian borders, Russia won't get itself involved.
I think, if they do attack, Armenians will find some solution, man we are not dumb. Besides, at this moment we hold the best strategic positions, it will take long time before they get back at us - Rafael

It is not a matter of believing, it is a fact! Shame on LTP and current government! You must understand that if people were happy with current government they would not protest no matter who is organizing the protests.

Can you imagine, that in Canada police will assault on peaceful demonstrators as it was on Saturday morning in Yerevan? The article is about the violations. Today in Armenian history- 0 World Civil Defense day.
- 1856 Birth of the cleric, historian, ethnologist, teacher and translator, Gyoot Aghanyan (Harootyoon Ter - Arakelian) in Tbilissi (Georgia). He translated literary classics and re-wrote Yeghisheh's "Vardanants Story" in modern Armenian. He wrote textbooks on religion and library science. He was the first in Eastern Armenia to publish a wall-calendar.
- 1857 Opening of the school at Varaga Monastery (western Armenia) for the education of "orphan and homeless" children.
- 1865 Birth in Tbilisi of Teegran Hovhannisian, translator and lawyer. He translated the novels "Harootyoon" (Resurrection) written by Lev Tolstoy and "Arants Davananki" (Without Faith) written by Henry Senkeveech.
- 1867 Birth of the writer Nar-Dos (Meekael Hovhannisyan) in Tbilissi (Georgia). He died in 1933.
- 1901 Birth of the poet Sarmen (Armenak Sargsian) in Pakhvants (Western Armenia). Many popular songs have been written using his poems as lyrics.
- 1915 The First Meeting of Armenian immigrants took place in Echmiadsin. The meeting tried to integrate the work of the many benevolent unions that were created to help the survivors of the 1915 Genocide.
- 1920 Azeri Turks perpetrate the Genocide of Shooshee. Some 20 000 Armenians are killed.
- 1920 The Government allots 50 million rubles for agricultural development. Agricultural tractors are brought to Armenia for the first time.
- 1930 The Sardarapat tractor plant starts production.
- 1934 Death in Yerevan of Toros Toramanyan (architecture historian).
- 1960 Martiros Saryan is awarded the title "People's Painter of the USSR".
