NEW TENTS ERECTED AT LIBERTY SQUARE

There were over 60 tents erected at Liberty Square today. The sit-down strikers went on their protest action the whole night. As usual, First President Levon Ter-Petrossian spent the night with his supporters.
In the afternoon a group of policemen mounted the platform and invited Sargis Hatspanian, an Artsakh war veteran and a prominent Diaspora public figure, to the police station.
Hatspanian neither signed nor took the summons. Meanwhile, the presentees chained the platform and began shouting, “Sargis, Sargis!”
After the policemen retired, Hatspanian began comforting people saying that in case he was detained people should apply to the French Government and Foreign Ministry. Hatspanian confessed that he had never broken any law or committed a crime in Armenia.
“They will find nothing in my house but 4000 books. Is a person devoting himself to literature considered a criminal?” Hatspanian wondered.
Supposedly, Hatspanian was called to the police station for his interference in Armenia’s political life.
To remind, Hatspanian has got French citizenship. He returned to Armenia 18 years ago.
