ARTHUR BAGHDASARIAN WILL SHARE HIS STANCE TOMORROW

Today the pre-election office for presidential candidate Arthur Baghdasarian released a statement which runs:
“Yesterday at 6 p.m. the Central Electoral Commission held an extraordinary sitting and confirmed the results of the presidential election. The CEC notified about the meeting only 30 minutes before, while the law sets two hours for notification. The CEC didn't notify about the agenda of the meeting, either.
The CEC meeting was held immediately after the deadline of vote re-count at polling stations. In fact, the CEC gave the candidates no chance to learn about the results of appeals against the election outcome and to compare the election documents to get the real picture.
We condemn this compulsory style and state that in a number of disputed polling stations the results of the vote are distorted, regardless of all our complaints. Besides, political figures were arrested, which is condemnable. At the same time, Levon Ter-Petrossian was declared president at Liberty Square with 65 percent of votes. This is also inadmissible for us.
We state that the use of violent methods by the government will not help restore public confidence. It will increase the possibility of mass public confrontation, stain the international reputation of the country, question the presidential process and will not settle the situation. Moreover, the use of this style of work will stir new mass manifestations of protest, and will hardly helpful to the settlement of the problem. With commitment to the votes of about 300 thousand people who voted for Arthur Baghdasarian, as well as acknowledging our responsibility for hundreds of thousands of other citizens who have voted for Serzh Sarkissian and Levon Ter-Petrossian, we state that any effort to interfere with force is inadmissible and dangerous, and we uphold only political methods of overcoming this complicated home political situation.
Arthur Baghdasarian’s pre-election office will study all the documents regarding the results of the election and at 2 p.m. February 26 Arthur Baghdasarian will hold a news conference and give distinct political and legal assessments of the presidential election and inform about further efforts.
