“WHOEVER BECOMES THE NEXT RA PRESIDENT”

“Whoever becomes the next RA president, no abrupt changes in Armenian-Turkish relations will take place. In all cases, the Armenian-Turkish relations will improve”, said the Chairman of the “National Democratic Union” party Vazgen Manukyan to “A1+”.
Today Semih Idiz, the Columnist of one of the Turkish most popular newspapers “Milliyet”, visited the office of the “National Democratic Union” party and talked for an hour. Mr Manukyan informed “A1+” that he did not present the Columnist the pre-election mood in Armenia; he presented his viewpoints on Armenian-Turkish relations. “We talked about the Armenian-Turkish relations, reflected on the Genocide issue. The Turkish Columnist was interested in our opinion on Erdoghan’s letter to Robert Kocharyan, that a group of Armenian-Turkish historians should be set up to investigate the facts of 1915 tragedy”. Vazgen Manukyan told Semih Idiz that the Armenian part had no doubts in regard with the 1915 Armenian Genocide and if the Turkish people needed additional facts, they could gather a group of historians and scientists. “I told Mr Idiz that the recognition of the Genocide by Turkey was not aimed at blackening dignity of the Turkish people, since genocides are organized not by nations but by governments. Today, the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the present Turkey will mean that they condemn the activities of the Turkish government in 1915. I think that today’s Turkey can afford it”.
Semih Idiz and Vazgen Manukyan talked about the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. “I do not understand Turkish partial position on Karabakh problem, since being one of the most powerful countries in the region, Turkish balanced position would establish more favorable conditions for disseminating and reinforcing economic and political influence in the region”, said Vazgen Manukyan.
During the meeting the Turkish Columnist ensured that serious changes took place in Turkey today, which could contribute to the development the Armenian-Turkish relations. “I consider that today we may establish rather good economic relations with Turkey”, said Vazgen Manukyan if the Turkish government pursued a balanced policy in regard with Karabakh problem and added: “Whoever becomes the next RA president, he cannot ignore the fact of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, but at the same time we all understand that we need to establish stable economic relations with our neighbors”.
