“HOPES OF THE SETTLEMENT OF THE CONFLICT WEREN'T JUSTIFIED”

OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Foreign Minister of Belgium Karel De Gucht called on political leaders to display farsight and to take on responsibility to settle the «frozen conflicts» which can turn into a fresh conflict any moment. According to agency «Trend», the OSCE statement informed about the announcement of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office.
Speaking during the session of the Standing Council, Karel De Gucht said that they must restore trust in the OSCE as an organization which is an efficient tool in establishing peace and security throughout the whole Europe. «The frozen conflicts remind us that the world is not stable yet and that is what we must pay attention to every day», he said.
He stressed that Belgium as a country holding the OSCE Chairmanship in 2006 tried to settle the conflicts in the territory of the OSCE. “Unfortunately, we have had no results so far. Our hopes of recording progress in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict weren’t justified. The situation in South Caucasus is still tense”, Karel De Gucht announced.
